Mistie Kocurek graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where she earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to becoming an NP, Mistie spent over a decade working in hospital leadership and critical care as a registered nurse in San Antonio, gaining extensive experience at the bedside and in high-acuity settings. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Mistie is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the University of Texas at Austin, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026.
While working as a critical care nurse, Mistie developed a strong passion for the importance of continuity of care, an approach that has become a cornerstone of her clinical practice. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has served in diverse settings including internal medicine, family practice, weight management, men’s and women’s health, and pain management.
A proud native of the Texas Hill Country, Mistie was raised in the rolling hills of Uvalde, TX. She has called Bandera, Texas home for over 15 years and embraces the community wholeheartedly.
Mistie and her husband, Trent, enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle with their five children. As a family, they spend much of their free time immersed in nature and outdoors in hunting, playing sports, and hosting family gatherings. Mistie also has a deep love for animals and ranch life, raising goats, chickens, honey bees, and more. She takes pride in cultivating and harvesting goods from her land, reflecting her strong connection to both nature and community.
